Field Turf Replacement- Promises Made Promises Kept

Welcome back! We hope your Winter Break was filled with joyous moments with your children, family, and friends. As we embark on a new year, we are excited to share updates that reflect our ongoing commitment to our community and students.

Many of you might have noticed the recent changes at Pete’s Pool. The artificial turf at the Enumclaw Expo Center, a staple for the past 13 years, is making way for a significant upgrade.

In 2011 the community raised the funding necessary to transform the muddy sod into a modern playable field for student-athletes. Before that, when the conditions made the field unplayable, EHS athletes and the community had to drive to Orting Stadium to play and spectate games. As we replace the turf, we are reminded of the community's spirit and generosity, from the grassroots efforts of the Your Enumclaw Area Stadium (YEAS) committee to the invaluable contributions of donors and contractors.

When the 2011 turf was installed, the district, in a joint-use agreement with the city and as a promise to the community that worked so hard to fund the turf, made a promise to maintain and eventually renew the field. Knowing that the turf would eventually need to be replaced, the district set aside funding each year for this purpose. Today, we stand ready to fulfill that promise, fully funding the turf replacement without additional burden to our taxpayers.

This decision to replace the turf after nearly 13 years is a necessary step in our ongoing commitment to provide safe and high-quality facilities for our students and community members. The new turf will increase the safety of the field by including proper shock absorption features. With the previous turf, the district was required to pay for annual shock absorption testing to ensure it was safe for students. The new turf will eliminate the annual cost of this testing.

The field at Pete’s Pool is more than just a sports venue; it's a community cornerstone. It hosts football, soccer, lacrosse, youth programs, EHS graduation ceremonies, and various community events. This replacement is a testament to our commitment to providing a safe, enjoyable, and multifunctional space for everyone.

As we proceed with this exciting project, our gratitude goes out to every community member who has contributed, supported, and cheered from the stands. We eagerly anticipate the unveiling of the new turf in time for Spring sports to begin, ensuring a safer and more enjoyable environment for all who use it.

Sincerely,

Dr. Shaun Carey
