Community meeting- members listening to a member introduce themselves

The FOCUS Committee met for the first time on Tuesday evening.

Public schools belong to the entire community, and funding for capital improvements is generated through voter-approved bond measures. It is essential that community members help develop ESD's long-term capital facilities plan to reflect the values and priorities of the community.

The Community Facilities Oversight for Capital Utilization and Sustainability (FOCUS) Committee serves as a  community-led citizens' committee that will study the capital facilities needs of the district, review data, and develop recommendations for the school board designed to meet the needs of ESD students, families, staff, and the community over the next 20 years.

During their first meeting, members introduced themselves and participated in an activity to visually represent how the 24 members of the committee represent the community geographically across the Enumclaw School District.

Members in attendance reviewed the purpose of the committee and the charge given to them by the Enumclaw School District Board of Directors. This first meeting also allowed the committee to determine how it would be organized and the meeting schedule for the next nine months.

The committee determined it will meet on the first Tuesday of each month from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm. The public is encouraged to attend and observe the FOCUS meetings. During the meeting, the committee selected Anthony Wright to serve as Committee Chair and Andre Koch as Committee Vice Chair. As this committee is a community-led initiative, the Committee Chair and Vice Chair will lead and facilitate all future work done by its members.

Members were given resources and documents to review and discuss for future meetings.

The next meeting will take place on March 5, 2024, at 6:00 pm, in the Nancy A. Merrill Boardroom, 2929 McDougall Ave Enumclaw, WA 98022.
